This interactive workshop provides practical strategies to encourage learner autonomy and independence in assessing linguistic skills. Participants will explore formative assessment tasks and activities to incorporate in the classroom. We will analyse how fostering autonomy benefits both students and teachers, improving classroom dynamics and creating a purposeful approach to language learning.

Judith Sadurnì & Tania Vaz
Judit (DoS) has been teaching English to students of all ages and levels for more than 20 years, and she is now the Director of Studies at IH Arezzo. She has a degree in English Studies and a master’s in Creative Writing. After taking her CELTA in 2015, she got her DELTA in 2021, which helped her grow as an EFL teacher. She enjoys planning creative lessons and encouraging students and teachers to develop their thinking skills. In her free time, she loves gardening, reading and writing.
Tania (ADoS) has 18 years’ teaching experience in Portugal, Italy, and the UK, with 15 years as an Assistant/Director of Studies and INSET trainer. With a Psychology degree, CELTA and other wide-ranging qualifications, she teaches learners aged 3–80 and is a Cambridge Speaking examiner for all levels. She has more recently focused on teacher education specifically in CLIL, AI in education and Special Educational Needs. She aims to develop a dyslexia-friendly school through an Erasmus+ project in the future.
