This session focuses on preparing students for success in all spheres of life. Drawing on the Ministerial Decree of 23 December 2022 regarding orientamento scolastico, we will explore how orientation goes beyond career preparation to include the development of essential "Life Skills" such as Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Self-Management. Practical teaching strategies will be provided, with examples from the new DeaScuola courses This is Me and It’s My Time. Additionally, we will emphasize the importance of digital competences, particularly in using AI responsibly, encouraging students to embrace technological advancements for their growth and future success.
During the session we will discuss the following topics :
- Orientation and Life Skills - what do they have in common?
- Practical suggestions for teaching critical thinking, collaboration and self-management in the English language classroom.
- The responsible use of AI for study purposes.
Roy Bennett
Roy started teaching English to adults in the mid-2000s before joining the ELT publishing world in 2012. Since then, he has written and delivered numerous seminars and webinars on such topics as mediation, improving speaking skills and online assessment. He holds a DipTESOL from Trinity College London and is currently completing an MA dissertation on the teaching of life skills in the English language classroom.
